Fairmount Heights

The Homes of Fairmount Heights are the result of a City sponsored redevelopment effort based on a plan for the 16- block neighborhood bound by Central Avenue, South Orange Avenue, South 9th and South 12th Streets. Developed in partnership with The George Group, this redevelopment effort will bring noticeable improvements to the landscape of the neighborhood including a growing garden, a multiple purpose park, lighting & intersection upgrades and bus stop improvements. The Neighborhood and Reuse Plans have been carefully designed by The City of Newark’s Planning Department, The Urban League of Essex County and Newwork, with input from neighborhood residents and community organizations. One–, two– and three-family homes as well as several mixed used rental buildings are being created on more than 75 sites to build upon the existing community, strengthening it as more families move into the neighborhood.
